Hydroponic Mediums

In hydroponics, we use inert materials to grow plants in, while supplying the nutrition through the water. Air is the most important thing next to water for healthy plant roots. All hydroponic mediums offer a tremendous amount of air space. This allows us to water many times a day, replacing nutrients and oxygen in the root system and dramactically increasing growth.

Rockwool is one of the world's most famous hydroponic growing mediums. It is made by melting a combination of rocks and spinning it into fibers. Rockwool is 20% air space when fully saturated and has no nutritional value. Rockwool should be watered at least once a day, and increased as the root zone fills the cube or slab. Rockwool may appear to be wet but watering replenishes oxygen and nutrtion. Rockwool is difficult to overwater and underwatering will reduce performance.
