Grow Lights
Light is the essence of life and is one of the critical factors for a healthy and productive indoor garden. When working with grow lights it is important to consider how much plant light energy is produced for the wattage used. Plant light energy is visible light. Plants use blue light for vegetative growth; it promotes bushy green growth and prevents elongation. Red/yellow light is used to develop fruit and flowers. Because plants’ sensitivity to light is different than ours a light source that is visible to us may not be seen by a plant.
Digital ballasts have become the number one choice of growers due to their improved performance, low heat output and light weight.
Fluorescent lights are ideal for seedlings and low-light plants, but do not deliver the amount of light you need to grow plants taller than 6" - 12"
Once plant light energy is produced how it is distributed and reflected are key factors. A well designed reflector is absolutely a worthwhile investment for an optimized garden.
